time to buckle down

According to my Facebook Wedding counter there is only 475 days until my wedding. You are thinkging "only?! thats plenty of time." To plan a wedding maybe, but I have gained 40 pounds (count them, 4-0) since graduating college and entering law school. 40 pounds in 3 years. Thats 13.333 pounds year, more than pound a month for THREE years. It must end. In fact, it must reverse.

I am a stress eater. I know its cause. I don't even eat unhealthy, I just eat a lot. The only snacks we keep in the house are fruit, nuts, dried fruit, trail mix, sugar free po
psicles and fat free popcorn. I eat I Can't Believe Its Not Butter instead of butter, Egg Beaters instead of eggs, we use low fat or fat free cheese, wheat or whole grain bread, and I only drink Diet Soda, i don't touch regular. I hate brown rice, so we eat less rice rather switch to brown. I sub in cous cous, or whole wheat pasta (when i can afford it. Whole wheat is 1.75, non-whole wheat is 1.00. I can get more dinners out of non. But thats only when we are broke). I make sure veggies are the larger portion of the meal. I just stress eat, a lot.

Its time to lose. These two photos were what I looked like in 2006:

Yes, I am wearing a prom dress and bowling. You gotta find a use for those things. Its such a waste to only wear those things once. The other photo is the senior cruise, that is my gorgeous Jessica McClintock. It makes it look like I am wearing champagne frosting.

Here I am currently:

I my McClintock was a size 2. Those jeans are a size 10. Wedding dresses run small. I don't want to get married in a size 14. So, its time to get serious. 3500 calories = a pound, so i need to cut 3500 a week to lose weight. I need 1,795 to maintain this weight, 1,380 meets my basic energy needs and 1295 will let me lose. So I can either consume 1295 or consume 1545 and up my exercise for the day.

I am going to use this blog to hold my self accountable on mondays. Here is monday 1, I have started. see you in 475 days.

Best of luck. One "holistic" approach is to look for 10 little things that each burn 10 calories a day, which works out to 10lbs over a year. For our wedding, my wife took the "eat a little bit less, exercise a lot more" approach. Unbeknownst to me, she was doing double-sessions. Running 3 miles every morning, then hitting the gym or running again after work.

You might want to read "Real Food: What to eat and why" by Nina Planck. I picked up mine at the library, so it's available. It has a lot of information on what is actually healthy to eat. Best of luck!

i know JUST how you feel! I put on the freshman 30 and getting engaged a yr after i graduated was a rude awakening. I finally ordered by dress a size smaller- and after signing a waiver form (yes.. a contract that I had to get skinny) I was able to lose the weight. Running and eating less worked. Also- weight watchers worked out awesome for me last year (until we bought our first house and flushed all my good routine down the toilet)

i'm just getting back on the WW plan now since shorts/bathing suit season has apparently caught up with us..

good luck :)

You can do it, AE! You have plenty of time to drop the weight before the wedding.

keep in mind - law school is a tough time to give up stress eating... work on finding something else to do with your stress...

thanks for all the well wishes. thanks for the tip too. I like the 10 things to burn 10 calories idea.

JQ- I love weight watchers, but im broke right now. Good luck getting back on the program, its such a good program. I really like momentum (its like the best of both plans)

April I gained 40 pounds in college...mostly from beer, I think. Ha! Slim Fast really did work for me...plus running. I hated both with a firey passion, but they worked and I was back down to normal size for my wedding. It took about a year - you can definitely do it!!

Ah I think everyone is feeling the winter weight blahs right now. i personally have vowed to up my water intake, cut out pop, and try not to snack after 8pm.. Big problem for me! Love me some TV and buttery popcorn.
The kids talking me into drumsticks yesterday are messing with my healthy eating plans!

Thanks so much for popping by my blog! I'll be back :)

We have a book that might help (www.stresseaterdiet.com) Let me know if you want a free review copy and I'll send it. It could be a pre-wedding gift that can make your size 2 a reality. Steve
