Select and order the cake.

Select and order the cake. Some bakers require a long lead time. Attend several tastings before committing to any baker.

I selected the cake, I selected the baker, I have not ordered it.

We are going with a cake similar to this but with more flowers and no ribbons:


We are opting for buttercream because its cheaper.  Although I don't mind fondant, I am not a huge fan.  our baker, Konditor Meister, uses rolled chocolate, not fondant.  I actually found that to be kind of gross. So not only do we save money there, but its tastes better to save money.

As for flavors, we are getting a 4 layer cake.  The top layer, the freeze layer, will be vanilla with white chocolate mouse.  We wanted vanilla with vanilla buttercream, but the baker won't do that.  They may think they are the best in MA (and apparently so does MA) but they do too much damn business because they won't make basic changes to their cakes (like no nuts, no mouse just frosting) to make their clients happy.  So we are using plain mouse and its pretty good.  The other layers will be a large vanilla, a medium chocolate and a small pumpkin.


Now I just need to call them and order it.

Ooh...I like that cake. We are still finalizing our cake details and hoping to finish it up this month. We are thinking about a red velvet with cream cheese frosting and alternate layers of lemon with a raspberry filling...or maybe just a white cake with raspberry filling. We'll see. :)
